ISRAEL

HELLO WOODAUSTERWORLDTOUR FOLLOWERS. We have been in Israel for about 1 week now.
3 days in Tel Aviv which was interesting but busy. And the last 4 days down the very south in Eilat.
Eilat is on the Red Sea which my brother Moses parted.
Eilat has amazing fish and coral. We have been snorkeling every day. Elinor is a legend snorkeler.
I run every morning to the Egypt border. We can see Jordan across the red sea which prompts a rousing rendition of "I once went to Jordan, and what did I see"?
Samantha had an early 10th birthday present when she went scuba diving with dolphins. Dolphin in Hebrew is 'Dolpheen'.

Amy disappointed us all yesterday when she asked a waitress how do you says 'cheers' in Hebrew. Obviously she needs to watch fiddler on the roof another 50 times. Anyway after I danced and sang "to life, to life l'chaim" around the table I think she has that one.

Shalom! (they really do say this here)

  2. Although we have only been gone for about 10 days, it feels like a lot longer. I chalk it up to the number of new things we do every day, and having to work just that extra bit harder to do something pretty routine like figure out how to get online. It is surprising how little English there is around, even in the guidebooks. Surrounding us are heaps of Israelis, Russians and the odd French couple, but very few members of the current or past Commonwealth. As a result we really haven't met anyone! aside from the friendly sky diver Esaf who sat next to Samantha on the bus from TA to Eilat. I was therefore delighted to find this morning that one of the staff at the field school where we are staying is an LA transplant called Kerri. She gave me the lowdown on a number of things, including the fact that the nationality of tourists down here is very seasonal. Americans come in Sept-Oct so fortunately we have missed that high season. Also pleased to report that there is always a favourable reaction if you say you are from Australia. Apparently this is because Australia is a favourite destination of young Israelis post-Army, who travel to somewhere in the Blue Mountains to smoke hash!

Amy, Saints thrashed by Blues last week. Terrible. However, at least we are not 1-6 like the Hawks.
Is this the real reason you have skipped the country?????? http://www.theage.com.au/victoria/anz-bank-completely-shocked-about-drug-network-probe-20100514-v24b.html

  8. I have now changed teams. I barrack for the Eilat Falafels. They are on top of the ladder.
Today we Samantha, Amy and I climbed a massive mountain. At one stage we were next to Egypt border and could see Jordan.
It is sabbath tonight so I will shortly be signing off and opening the torah (for the non jewish followers this is the original bible).
There is a highly exclusive hotel next to our dorm accommodation with 3 oversized pools. Let's just say we have been spending more time at the hotel than our own place. They make excellent iced waters.

  12. quite a surprise to hear that you are in dormitory accomodation and not in the nice hotel...perhaps the girls could pick up some work to help defray the cost of the trip? a shekel saved is a shekel earned huh?

Thus we have been adding many more photos to our facebook accounts

and, we will open more blogs soon, one for Samantha and one for Elinor
